The First Harvest, Lughnasa is the cross-quarter date between summer solstice and autumn equinox, marked by the harvesting of the first crops of grains -- barley, wheat as well as fruits such grapes and stone fruit. Many hands make light work, making this a perfect time to gather, whether to harvest and garden together or to rejoice in all the bounty that abounds during this season.
RITUAL
The first of two harvest festivals occurs during the balmy days of summer, and we commence this Ritual with a picnic celebration. Embrace the entire process by engaging in the gathering and preparation of food. If you tend a garden, gather fresh vegetables or herbs for a delightful culinary creation. Alternatively, explore your local farmers market or stand to procure items that tantalize your taste buds. Consider experimenting with bread-making, paying homage to the wheat harvest associated with this occasion.
Celebrate the bounties of grapes and grains by including a bottle of local wine, beer, or non-alcoholic cider. Once you have everything prepared, seek out a pleasant outdoor setting- a tranquil park, an open meadow or creekside in the woods, and immerse yourself in the season's warmth while sharing a mini feast with loved ones.
CREATE YOUR ALTER
This alter is all about basking in the joy of the harvest. The sun sits high in the sky and the fruits of our labour are ripe. Design an alter to reflect this bounty. Pick a bouquet of wildflowers, grasses, ferns and branches. Add money or coins to call in wealth and include any symbols of abundance that resonate with you.

Now that your bounty-alter is arranged, settle into a comfortable position and light the candle. If you've already conducted the Litha Ritual during the Summer Solstice and documented your achievements for the year, take a moment to revisit those milestones. For newcomers, begin by acknowledging three accomplishments from this year.
Next, attune yourself to your body and spirit, and notice if any present fears or obstacles are revealed, ones that might be hindering your progress or the pursuit of your intentions. It's common to harbor apprehensions about failure or stagnation post-achievement. Don't feel pressured to resolve these fears immediately. Instead, jot them down, releasing them from within you. By acknowledging these fears, you provide them with space to exist, enabling you to address them effectively. This act soothes your nervous system and dismantles the barriers blocking your path.
