This guide highlights the medicinal and topical benefits rooted in traditional herbal medicine practices. Many of these plants are of Indigenous origins, carrying a rich history of ceremonial, medicinal and practical uses. BALM OF GILEAD
(Populus spp) possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, making it useful for relieving pain associated with arthritis, and sore muscles or soothing irritated skin conditions. It’s moisturizing properties promote faster healing from wounds, and burns.
CHICORY
(Cichorium intybus) is known for its digestive benefits, as it can stimulate appetite, improve digestion, and alleviate symptoms of indigestion and bloating. It also has diuretic properties and may support liver health.
DANDELION
(Taraxacum officinale) is prized for its diuretic properties, which can help promote kidney health. It also contains antioxidants and may support liver function and digestion and has detoxifying properties that are beneficial when taken internally or cleanses skin when applied topically.
ELDERBERRY
(Sambucus nigra) is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, making it a potent immune booster that can help prevent and alleviate symptoms of colds and flu. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and may aid in reducing fever.
FIREWEED
(Chamaenerion angustifolium) is used in skincare products for its soothing and calming effects on the skin. It may help reduce redness and inflammation, making it suitable for sensitive or irritated skin. Taken internally it has astringent properties that can help with indigestion.
GOLDENROD
(Solidago spp.) is traditionally used to support urinary tract health and alleviate symptoms of urinary tract infections (UTIs) due to its diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties. Used in skincare for its astringent properties, which can help tighten pores and control excess oil production.
KINNIKINNICK
Also known as Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi), contains compounds with diuretic and antibacterial properties, making it useful for urinary tract infections and kidney health. It is also used in traditional medicine for its astringent properties.
LION'S MANE MUSHROOM
Lion's Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) is renowned for its potential cognitive benefits, including improved memory and focus. It may also support nerve regeneration and help alleviate symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.
NETTLE
(Urtica dioica) is rich in vitamins and minerals, particularly iron and vitamin C, making it a valuable herb for combating anemia and boosting the immune system. It is also used to alleviate symptoms of seasonal allergies and hay fever. In skincare it has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe conditions such as eczema and acne. Additionally, its astringent qualities may help control oil production and reduce the appearance of pores.
PEARLY EVERLASTING
(Anaphalis margaritacea) is traditionally used for its anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties, which may help alleviate respiratory issues and swollen mucous membranes due to colds, coughs and throat infections. It is also used to promote digestion and support gastrointestinal health.
PINE
(Pinus spp.) contains compounds such as vitamin C and antioxidants, making it useful for boosting immunity and fighting off infections. PLAINTAIN

It has the ability to soothe irritated or inflamed skin and may also help reduce itching and redness associated with various skin conditions.
RASPBERRY (LEAF)
(Rubus idaeus) contains antioxidants and vitamin C, making it beneficial for boosting immunity and supporting overall health. It has anti-inflammatory effects and contains fragarine, a compound that acts as stimulant and relaxant on the uterine muscles, helping to alleviate menstrual cramps.
RED CLOVER
(Trifolium pratense) contains compounds called isoflavones, which may help alleviate symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and night sweats. It is also used for its potential cardiovascular benefits and as a blood purifier.
ROSE HIPS
Rosehips, the fruiting body of the wild rose plant (Rosa spp.), are loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants, making them excellent for boosting immunity and fighting off colds and flu. Rosehip oil is renowned for its ability to hydrate and regenerate the skin. It is rich in essential fatty acids, such as omega-3 and omega-6, which help improve skin texture, reduce scars, fine lines and blemishes or discolouration, while promoting a more youthful complexion.
SALAL BERRY
(Gaultheria shallon) is rich in antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which contribute to its anti-inflammatory properties. It has been used in traditional medicine to treat sore throats, gastrointestinal issues, various inflammatory conditions and generally helps boots the immune system.
SELF HEAL
(Prunella vulgaris) Self Heal, or Heal All, is valued for its anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. It has been used in traditional herbal medicine to treat wounds, sore throat, and gastrointestinal issues. Self-Heal extract is sometimes included in skincare formulations for its potential to promote wound healing and soothe skin irritations.
SAINT JOHN'S WORT
(Hypericum perforatum) is primarily known for its antidepressant properties and is commonly used to alleviate symptoms of mild to moderate depression and anxiety. It can have contradictions if taking prescription antidepressants, consult with a doctor before using. Topically it has anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. It may help soothe minor burns, bruises, and irritated skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. However, it can increase sensitivity to sunlight in some individuals, so caution is advised.
YARROW
(Achillea millefolium) has been used traditionally to reduce bleeding and promote wound healing due to its hemostatic and astringent properties. Because of these properties, yarrow regulates menstrual flow, eases cramps, and relieves symptoms of PMS. Applied topically, its astringent action tightens and tones skin, reducing the appearance of pores and Yarrow’s wound healing abilities accelerates the healing process of cuts and abrasions.
